How to calculate your Personal Year Number
The Personal Year combines your birth month and birth day with the current calendar year.
- Reduce your birth month to one digit.
- Reduce your birth day to one digit.
- Add the digits of the calendar year and reduce to one digit.
- Add the three numbers and reduce again to a single digit from 1 to 9.
Example for 2027: birth date 14 January. Month 1 = 1. Day 14 = 1 + 4 = 5. Year 2027 = 2 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 11 = 1 + 1 = 2. Total 1 + 5 + 2 = 8. This person is in a Personal Year 8 in 2027.
Example for 2026: same birth date. Year 2026 = 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 = 1. Total 1 + 5 + 1 = 7, a Personal Year 7.
Your year of birth is not used. Two people born on 14 January in different years share the same Personal Year.
When does the Personal Year start?
Most numerologists use the calendar year, from 1 January to 31 December, and that is the method used in this calculator. Some practitioners say the new energy builds from your birthday or overlaps for a few months around the turn of the year. If the first weeks of January still feel like your old year, that is normal.
Personal Year meanings 1 to 9
Personal Year 1 – New beginnings
Year 1 opens a brand new 9-year cycle. It is the best time to start: a business, a job, a course, a fitness plan or a new chapter in your personal life. Energy is fresh and forward-moving, and what you begin now can shape the next nine years.
- Focus: decide what you want and take the first step.
- Work and money: launch projects, apply for new roles, ask for opportunities.
- Love: new connections, or a fresh start in an existing relationship.
- Avoid: waiting for permission or perfect timing.
Personal Year 2 – Patience and partnership
Year 2 slows things down after the push of Year 1. Seeds are growing underground. Relationships, teamwork and emotional balance matter more than speed.
- Focus: cooperation, listening and patience.
- Work and money: partnerships, contracts and behind-the-scenes progress.
- Love: closeness and commitment grow; sensitivity is higher.
- Avoid: forcing results or making decisions in a rush.
Personal Year 3 – Expression and joy
Year 3 is social, creative and visible. Ideas flow, people notice you and life feels lighter. It is a good year to share your work, network and enjoy yourself.
- Focus: communication, creativity and fun.
- Work and money: marketing, writing, presenting and new contacts.
- Love: romance, dating and celebrations.
- Avoid: scattering your energy or overspending.
Personal Year 4 – Hard work and foundations
Year 4 asks for discipline. It is about building structure: routines, savings, health, skills and systems. It may feel slower or heavier, but the work you do now gives lasting results.
- Focus: planning, organisation and steady effort.
- Work and money: build skills, fix finances, finish long tasks.
- Love: stability, practical support and long-term plans.
- Avoid: shortcuts and neglecting your health.
Personal Year 5 – Change and freedom
Year 5 is the turning point of the cycle. Expect movement, change and surprises: travel, a move, a new job or new people. Flexibility is your best strength this year.
- Focus: adaptability and new experiences.
- Work and money: change roles, try new ideas, sell and promote.
- Love: excitement and new attractions; keep honesty at the centre.
- Avoid: impulsive decisions you cannot undo.
Personal Year 6 – Home, love and responsibility
Year 6 centres on home, family and relationships. Commitments such as marriage, children, caring for family or improving your home are common themes. Responsibility increases, and so does love.
- Focus: family, home and service to others.
- Work and money: steady work, community roles and home-related spending.
- Love: one of the strongest years for commitment.
- Avoid: taking on everyone’s problems as your own.
Personal Year 7 – Reflection and inner growth
Year 7 is a quieter, inward year. It is ideal for study, research, spiritual growth and rest. Outer results may be slower, but understanding deepens.
- Focus: learning, reflection and self-care.
- Work and money: specialise, study and plan; avoid risky bets.
- Love: deeper conversations and more need for space.
- Avoid: isolating yourself or overthinking every decision.
Personal Year 8 – Power, money and results
Year 8 is the harvest year for ambition. Career growth, promotions, business deals and financial decisions are highlighted. Effort from earlier years can turn into visible results.
- Focus: confidence, leadership and goals.
- Work and money: negotiate, invest wisely, expand.
- Love: balance ambition with time for loved ones.
- Avoid: cutting ethical corners or burning out.
Personal Year 9 – Completion and release
Year 9 closes the cycle. It is a time to finish, forgive and let go of what no longer fits, such as habits, jobs, places or relationships, to make room for the new Year 1 ahead.
- Focus: completion, generosity and clearing space.
- Work and money: finish projects and tie up loose ends.
- Love: honest endings or a deeper, more mature bond.
- Avoid: starting big new projects too early.
Personal Months and Personal Days
Inside every Personal Year there are 12 Personal Months. Each month adds its own flavour to the year’s main theme.
- Personal Month = Personal Year + calendar month number, reduced to one digit.
- Personal Day = Personal Month + day of the month, reduced to one digit.
For example, in a Personal Year 8, March (month 3) is a Personal Month 8 + 3 = 11 = 2, a month for patience and partnership within a powerful year. The calculator above shows all your months at once and highlights the current month.
Personal Year and Universal Year 2026 and 2027
The Universal Year is the number of the calendar year for everyone. 2026 adds up to 10 = 1, a Universal Year 1 of new beginnings. 2027 adds up to 11 = 2, a Universal Year 2 linked with cooperation and patience (some numerologists also read it as a Master Number 11 year). Your Personal Year shows how that collective energy plays out in your own life.
Your Personal Year works together with your other numbers. Your Life Path Number describes your lifelong path, and your name number shows how you express yourself. Read what each Life Path means in our Life Path Numbers guide.

What is my Personal Year Number in 2027?
Add your birth month and birth day (each reduced to one digit) to 2, the number of 2027 (2 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 11 = 2), and reduce the total to one digit. The calculator above does it instantly.
Is the Personal Year based on my birthday or on 1 January?
This calculator uses the calendar year, the most common method. Some numerologists start the new Personal Year on your birthday. If you follow that method, use the previous calendar year until your birthday.
Which Personal Year is the best?
Every year has a purpose. Year 1 is best for starting, Year 6 for love and family, and Year 8 for career and money. A “difficult” year such as 4 or 7 often builds the strength that later years use.
Can I have Master Number 11 or 22 as a Personal Year?
Most numerologists reduce the Personal Year to a single digit from 1 to 9. Some note an 11 or 22 total as a year with extra intensity, but read it through its root number, 2 or 4.
How is the Personal Year different from the Life Path Number?
Your Life Path Number uses your full date of birth, including the birth year, and never changes. Your Personal Year uses the current calendar year and changes every year.
