How name compatibility is calculated

The calculator compares up to three pairs of numbers:

  1. Expression Number (40% of the score), from all the letters in each name. It shows how each person acts, works and communicates.
  2. Soul Urge Number (40%), from the vowels. It shows what each person wants deep down.
  3. Life Path Number (20%), from each date of birth, if you add them. It shows each person’s overall life direction.

Each pair is rated, and the ratings are combined into a single percentage.

What the match types mean

  • Same energy: both people have the same root number. You understand each other quickly but may share the same weaknesses, so balance is important.
  • Harmonious: your numbers belong to the same energy family (1-5-7, 2-4-8 or 3-6-9). You tend to want similar things and move at a similar pace.
  • Complementary: your numbers are different in style. This is common in strong relationships, because each person brings something the other lacks. Open communication makes it work.

There is no “bad” result. A lower score simply means you approach life differently, which can be a strength.

How to use your result

  1. Look at the Soul Urge row first. Matching inner desires, such as both wanting family life or both wanting adventure, usually matter most in long-term relationships.
  2. Use the Expression row for daily life. It shows how you each communicate, make decisions and handle work. Different styles can complement each other.
  3. Talk about the differences. If one of you is a 1 (independent) and the other a 2 (partnership-focused), agree openly on when to decide together and when to give space.
  4. Celebrate the matches. Shared numbers point to easy common ground: plan activities and goals around them.

Business partners can read the result the same way. Harmonious Expression numbers suggest a smooth working style, while complementary numbers often make a strong team, with one partner leading and the other organising.

Which name should I use?

Use the name each person is called most often in daily life. If your partner is known by a nickname, try both the full name and the nickname, because the energy people respond to every day matters most.

To understand each person’s numbers in depth, enter their name in our name numerology calculator. For Life Path details, use the Life Path Number calculator.

Pythagorean or Chaldean?

The calculator starts with Pythagorean, the system most commonly used for love compatibility in Western numerology. Switch to Chaldean if you follow Indian or Vedic numerology. Comparing both can give a fuller picture.

Frequently asked questions

Is this calculator only for couples?

No. You can compare friends, family members, co-founders or a person and a business name. The method is the same.

What is a good compatibility score?

Scores above 80% show strong natural alignment. Scores between 60% and 80% show a complementary match, where differences can become strengths with good communication.

Does a low score mean we should not be together?

No. Numerology describes tendencies, not destiny. Respect, trust and effort shape a relationship far more than any number.

Why add dates of birth?

The Life Path Number adds a third layer to the comparison and makes the result more personal. It is optional.

Can I check compatibility with a baby’s name?

For choosing a baby name, use the baby name numerology calculator, which matches names with the baby’s date of birth.
