How the baby name calculator works

Every name has a number, called the Expression Number. It is found by adding the value of each letter in the name. Every date of birth also has a number, the Life Path Number, which describes the child’s natural path in life.

In numerology, a good baby name is one whose Expression Number works in harmony with the Life Path Number. The calculator:

  1. Calculates your baby’s Life Path Number from the date of birth.
  2. Calculates the Expression Number of each name you enter.
  3. Rates each name as a Perfect match, Harmonious or Neutral, and marks the best option.

You can also download a free PDF chart of the results to share with family.

How to read the harmony results

  • Perfect match: the name number is the same as the Life Path Number (after reducing Master Numbers 11, 22 and 33 to 2, 4 and 6). The name strongly supports the child’s natural path.
  • Harmonious: the numbers belong to the same energy family. Numerologists group 1, 5 and 7 (independent and curious), 2, 4 and 8 (steady and practical), and 3, 6 and 9 (creative and caring).
  • Neutral: no conflict, but no special boost. A small spelling change can often turn a neutral name into a harmonious one.

Tips for choosing a baby name with numerology

  1. Start with names you love. Numerology works best as a final filter, not as the reason to pick a name you do not like.
  2. Wait for the date of birth if you can. The Life Path Number depends on it. If the baby has not arrived yet, shortlist names and check them on the day.
  3. Test spelling variations. Aarav, Arav and Aaraav can all give different numbers. Try them in the calculator; results update as you type.
  4. Check the full name. If you plan to use a middle name or surname every day, enter the full version too.
  5. Say it aloud. A name has to sound good with the surname and be easy for teachers and friends to say.

Chaldean or Pythagorean for baby names?

Families following Indian or Vedic numerology usually prefer Chaldean, which is the default in this calculator. Families following Western numerology often use Pythagorean. If a name scores well in both systems, it is a particularly strong choice.

Frequently asked questions

Can I check a baby name before the baby is born?

Yes. Enter the names without a date of birth to see each name’s Expression Number. When you know the date of birth, add it to see the harmony rating.

Which numbers are lucky for a baby name?

In Chaldean numerology, names totalling 1, 3, 5 and 6 are traditionally considered fortunate. The most important factor, however, is harmony with the baby’s Life Path Number.

What if our favourite name is Neutral?

Keep it if you love it. You can also try a small spelling change, such as doubling a letter. Our name correction calculator suggests spelling variations automatically.

Does the baby’s surname matter?

Numerologists differ. Many use only the first name for a child, while others use the full name. Check both and choose a spelling that works well either way.

Can I use the calculator in Hindi?

Yes. Switch the language to Hindi at the top of the calculator. Names should still be typed in English letters, because numerology values are based on the Latin alphabet.

For guidance and fun. The love and care a child receives matter far more than any number.
